RLC to Challenge the Shield

Students and alumni to participate in the Canadian Adventure Race

RLC will be sending a delegation to the Canadian Adventure Race "Challenge the Shield" held in Parry Sound @ the Georgian Nordic Centre on Sunday, September 8th!

RLC Delegates and race partners:

  • Hamish ‘24 & Cooper ‘24
  • Baron ‘25 & Chase ‘25
  • Clement ‘25 & Tahoe ‘24
  • Mr. Penner (parent) & Mrs. Priolo

Challenge the Shield is a CANOE, Mountain BIKE, TREK/ trail RUN race. The first portion is like a triathlon where the route is marked. After the first round athletes will be challenged to navigate to checkpoints to earn additional points in various disciplines (canoe, bike, run and swim).

The original plan was to offer this opportunity up to all RLC students in the first week back-to-school. However, the event organizers noted that there is a cap on 70 teams and the race was filling up! So we reached out to some of our keen runners, hekkla-ers, and adventurers to establish an RLC team quickly. If this is something that interests you there will be more opportunities - you have not missed out!

  • Volunteer at the event to see what it is all about! Challenge the Shield is looking for students to support the participants, take photos and enjoy the celebration at the end.
  • Ms. Rand will be introducing a new co-curricular this fall - triathlon! This may be traditional (swim, bike, run) or adventure based.
  • Sign up for the RLC adventure race! We have our own in house adventure race happening on Saturday, September 21st - all students will either participate OR volunteer at a station to support the event.
  • Challenge the Shield 2025 - we are gearing up for next year! While we have 8 RLC representatives this year, we are planning to learn and grow from the first experience and bring an even BIGGER team of RLC students in 2025.
  • Search for an event - if you find a cool event that suits RLC let’s work together to make it happen!
