Matt Jonah joins the RLC admissions team

Matt brings experience, perspective, and expertise to a key role at a unique moment in our development.

We’re delighted to have Matt Jonah join us as part of the Rosseau Lake College admissions team. His experience in admissions and enrollment management spans more than two decades. On graduating from university, he joined the admissions office at Mount Allison University, ultimately serving as the associate registrar for recruitment and admissions. From there he took similar roles across the country (NB, ON, BC) in independent AP and IB schools.

Inviting Matt to come on board at RLC is a reflection of the direction of the school as we look to the next strategic plan. Per the leadership of Dave Krocker, Head of School, this is a defining period in the life of RLC, one that presents a unique opportunity to elevate facilities while strengthening enrollment and advancement efforts. “We’ve done well to date,” he says, “though we know it’s important to further establish some practices with an eye to the longer term.”

By any metric, Matt is one of the most exceptional and experienced admissions professionals in Canada today. “I love the process of understanding an institution,” he said recently. “Of getting to know the character of the school and then finding students who would help to enhance that character.” His approach, which he’s proven throughout his career, is much like assembling a great athletic team: all recruits are great players, yet the work is in ensuring that each brings specific strengths and attributes that can contribute to the success of the whole.

In speaking of what attracted him to RLC, Matt talks about the things that make us unique in the world of private and independent schooling: size, location, tradition, character. He also speaks to the initiatives at the heart of the RLC experience, including outdoor education and Seven Generations. Specifically with Seven Generations, he says that “there’s a lot happening at the post-secondary level, Indigenizing the curriculum, and creating safe spaces for Indigenous students and elders, but very few independent schools have taken on that same focus. And I think RLC is taking a real leadership position there, and there are real opportunities for student learning and student engagement as a result.”

We’re fortunate to be able to bring Matt onboard at this key moment in the life of the school. Join us in welcoming him to the RLC family.
