Grades 6-8
Foundation Years

Building a toolkit for academic success in the senior years is the primary focus of the Foundation Years. Teaching fundamentals of work habits, learning skills, and foundations skills in brainstorming, researching, and collaborating are explored both inside the classroom and outside through lived experiences.

The endless explorations of our land and the connections and relationships with our local communities are at the heart of our learning.  Guided by the general mandate of building and maintaining a program that is uniquely RLC, learning in the Foundation Years often culminates with large-scale projects and highly-creative expressions that will prepare you for learning in grades 9 and 10.

Over two years, the RLC Foundation Years program nurtured our daughter’s love of learning, encouraged her curiosity, and rewarded her efforts while providing a solid transition to high school.

January Term in the Foundation Years

In January, the Foundation Years students are immersed in a world of music, art, dance, and drama. You will spend four straight weeks gaining performance experience, building self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment, while most importantly, having fun. The program culminates in a virtual production at the end of the month to share with the community. All four components of The Arts curriculum are covered in this vibrant, immersive experience.
