Stories from RLC

Spring Arts Festival

Please join us at the Annual Spring Arts Festival where RLC students will showcase their many artistic talents!
Date: Saturday, April 22nd, 2017
Location: Muskoka Woods Hanger
Time: 1:00 pm
Cost: $12.00 per adult (students are free)

the FESTIVAL…

The RLC Drama Club is performing High School Election, written by faculty member Mr. Randy Girdner. “High School Election is a classic triumph-over-evil tale, or in this case, super nerd-beats-cool guy. In a school where only the popular vote counts, a few students decide to take election protocol into their own hands.” In addition, there will be musical performances by the RLC Jam Band, Choir and Concert Band plus a stunning selection of our student’s media and visual art will be on display.

the FOOD…

The Culinary Arts Club is working diligently on an exceptional menu for this event.  You will be amazed by the creativity of the fare prepared and served at intermission by RLC students.

the AUCTION…

Our very dedicated Parent Guild is gathering some amazing items for this year’s silent auction.  Proceeds from the auction will be used to financially support non-capital expenditures that improve student life on campus.  Last year’s proceeds were used to renovate the “Hub”.  This year we are excited to announce the money will be used to build an outdoor classroom and recondition the climbing wall.

To donate an auction item or purchase tickets please contact Pam Bissonette: pam.bissonette@rosseaulakecollege.com and/or call 705-732-4351 ext. 13

Thank you very much for your support of this community event.

Co-curricular Report

The final sports term of the school year has begun (though Clubs will continue to run on Mondays and Thursdays until the April 22 Spring Arts Festival.) Many students have chosen sports that challenge them this term: the rowing and badminton teams get up early to practice, rugby and Ultimate hold rigorous practices despite the sports fields not yet being clear, and the health + fitness group continues to get stronger and fitter in the ‘Dungeon’ gym. A lot of students are trying new sports for the first time this season, and have shown a commitment to the process of learning and improving. That is what the Athletics Program at RLC is all about: we ask our students to be involved in sport in order to empower them and provide them with the opportunity to gain the confidence, skill, adaptability, and well-roundedness to be successful in every arena of life. As we move through the final sports term of the year, we encourage coaches and student-athletes to continue to embrace the following Positive Coaching Alliance principles:

Honouring the ROOTS of the Game: promoting and reinforcing a culture of respect in sport, for the rules, officials, opponents, teammates and our selves.

The ELM Tree of Mastery: putting forward one’s best effort while continually learning from inevitable mistakes.

We look forward to another fulfilling season of athletics at RLC. Go Wolves!

RLC Grade 12 Graduates Fundraising Events

A small group of parents from the RLC Grade 12 Graduates, led by Sue Margeson, have organized a series of fundraising events to support the grad party for the leaving class of 2017.  Their goal is to have the best graduation RLC has seen and provide a fabulous send off to life beyond secondary school!

The team has planned a couple of wonderful evenings that will no doubt be loads of fun for everyone.  Please save these dates and plan to attend to have fun and support the 50th graduating class of RLC.

The second event planned by the parents:
Saturday, April 8, 2017, from  7 – 10 p.m. – Family Bowling Night and Silent Auction.
Where:  Georgian Lanes Bowling Alley (on Bowes Street in Parry Sound)
Cost:  $20.00 per person (includes bowling and shoe rental)

There will be games, food, cash bar and so much more, please plan to attend.  Transportation arrangements have been made for boarders to participate.

The parent committee has been approached by many grads and their families offering help to make this the best graduation ever.  Thank you for your interest, but the best way everyone can help/support is by purchasing tickets to either or both of these events!  Also, sponsorships are welcome.  Anyone wanting to sponsor or would like to donate to either one of these auctions, please let us know as soon as possible.  Your generous support is truly appreciated.  Please see the attached sponsorship sheet with the different opportunities available.  Family donations and sponsorships are very welcome as well as corporate (businesses) as well.

If you have any questions or for more information on these events and the various opportunities to support, please do not hesitate to reach out to Sue Margeson directly.  Phone:  249-222-0500 or Cell 519-938-2665  Email:  suemargeson@live.ca

RLC 50th Anniversary Celebration Invitation

Dear Rosseau Lake College Community,

With excitement, the Future Forward 50 Steering Committee would like to invite you to join us for Rosseau Lake College’s 50th Anniversary Celebration on our beautiful lakeside campus.

As a graduate of 1992, I had the privilege of attending the school’s 25th anniversary. It was a fantastic event, and I have never forgotten it.  Twenty-five years later, I am so pleased to be the Chair of a 50th Anniversary Steering Committee made up of alumni, parents, past staff and RLC board members.  We have organized an outstanding celebration, taking place on June 17, 2017, following Rosseau Lake College’s 50th Closing Day Celebration.

Students, parents, alumni, staff, supporters and community members are invited to join us for a day of reflection and celebrations under a beautiful lighted marquee in the centre of campus.

This semi-formal affair includes:

  • Freshly prepared hors d’oeurves during reception and gourmet plated sit down dinner catered by Crossroads Restaurant
  • Open bar with cocktails & dinner wine
  • Live entertainment and music by Two for the Show
  • Complimentary shuttle buses between J.W Marriott The Rosseau in Minett & Rosseau Lake College
  • 50th  Anniversary Celebration cake prepared by the Rosseau Lake College kitchen

Sponsorship Opportunities are also available.  For more information on the Future Forward 50 Gala event or to purchase tickets online click here

50th Anniversary books, commemorating the history of the school can also be purchased through the brand new online RLC School Store.  To access the store click here

We are excited to see past headmasters, faculty members, board members, parents and the RLC alumni in June.  The event would obviously not be complete without the current parents, families and students of Rosseau Lake College. Together we can ensure the 50th celebration will be remembered for years to come.

I look forward to seeing you in June.
