Address From the Head
After a well deserved two week break the students and the staff shook off the academic rust with a view to get back up to speed and return to ‘normalcy’. In addition, spring sports started with coaches sending out reconnaissance missions to find dry places on campus to conduct the first practices and ‘pump up’ the participants of what is to come. Ah, early spring! Wet, mucky and dirty!
This week, besides the regular day to day focus, the school community will be fully engaged in preparing for the Spring Arts Festival and Silent Auction. Visual art, music, and culinary art will be professionally on display, but taking center stage will be the dramatic arts performance.
The event is being held at the Muskoka Woods Hangar and local radio station, Moose FM will be live on location providing updates to their listening audience throughout the entire event from 1 – 5 pm. All are welcome. Tickets will be sold at the door for $15.
Last year this event raised $13,000 and supported equipment, teaching tools, and supplies for the Science department. This year the funds will go toward upgrades to the RLC library. We are aiming to match or exceed our achievement from the previous year and I thank, in advance, the work being done by RLC Parent Guild who behind the scenes have been planning the very important silent auction, which is still in need of more items.
Plan to come out, bring your friends and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship and excellent entertainment. Support RLC and celebrate the arts alongside the students and staff of RLC.

Spring Arts Festival & Silent Auction Fundraiser
Saturday, April 9th is fast approaching!
Important Notice from the Parent Guild Regarding the Arts Festival Silent Auction for this Saturday!
Thank you, everyone, who has shown support towards this year’s Silent Auction. We really appreciate the generosity of the items that have been donated so far!
We are still hoping for a few more items to help fill our tables. Plus, tickets are cheaper in advance and numbers will help the Culinary Arts Club to know how many refreshments to prepare and serve. Please contact Pam Bissonette or call the school office donate an item or to purchase tickets. Thanks!
The students headed down to Rinx this weekend and had the opportunity to play “Cyber Sport”. It is a combination of bumper cars, basketball, and scoops. You had 5 minutes to score as many points as possible in a suspended box at either end of the court. It was a lot more challenging than you think but a great deal of fun. A fun new activity was discovered. Thanks for a great weekend.
Europe Trip – March 2016
We touched down in Paris about 9:30 am on Friday, March 18th and hit the ground running for a very full nine days! Our first day was spent walking around the streets of Paris, trying out some delicious crepes and enjoying coffee at a little cafe. We met the other school groups that would be our travelling companions, and after enjoying dinner together, had a walking tour of Paris and then a metro ride back to our hotel – very glad to see the comfy beds! Over the next two days, we took a bus tour of the city, visited the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, Cathedrale Notre-Dame, Montmartre, Place de la Concorde, the Arc de Triomphe, walked the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, took an evening ride down the Seine and sailed past the Eiffel tour just in time to see a spectacular light show – and a whole lot more!
Very early Monday morning we took the train to Avignon in Provence. While in this region, we toured the village of Avignon, the city of Nimes, saw the viaduct Pont du Gard, and the beautiful village of Les Baux-de- Provence. There is so much history in this area, and it is easy to see why so many French painters were inspired by the surroundings! En route to Barcelona the following day, we spent some time at the ancient walled city of Carcassonne and reached our hotel just in time to head for dinner and an evening tour of Barcelona. The following day, a bus tour of Barcelona allowed us to see the highlights of the city. We spent time at Park Guell and were impressed with the work of Gaudi – including the remarkable Sagrada Familia! After a delicious paella lunch by the beautiful harbour, we walked along the waterfront to rendez-vous for our bike tour. Riding around the city on bikes was a lot of fun and gave us a chance to explore a bit more of the city. We also spent a lot of time exploring Barcelona on foot – visiting the Picasso museum and walking down La Rambla and exploring all the ‘carrers’ of the area.
This fantastic trip was filled with opportunities to see so much history – amazing architecture and art – and also gave us the chance to see a different part of the world and a different way of life. We returned home on Saturday, March 26th, and I think everyone was grateful for a couple of days to rest up before returning to school!
