Donations through WeChat and Alipay
It is now possible to donate to Rosseau Lake College from Chinese bank accounts through the Alipay and WeChat systems. We are pleased to be able to offer you this convenience and enable payments made in RMB.
In order to do this, RLC has an agreement with Canadian company SnapPay who facilitates the payments in RMB from Chinese accounts to Alipay and then on to RBC and finally to our bank account, in Canadian dollars. The school is not charged for any of these payments and in fact, there is an additional benefit of a 0.2% donation back from SnapPay.
In order to donate to RLC using Alipay or WeChat, donors simply scan our QR code using the Alipay or WeChat app on a mobile device and a simple donation form facilitates the donation. Further information about making a donation through Alipay or WeChat may be found here.
Charitable Transfer of Securities
As a charitable organization, Rosseau Lake College is able to accept donations in the form of securities transfers.
If your securities have appreciated in value since you acquired them, you may choose to donate them because any capital gains resulting from their subsequent sale are not subject to taxation. As a result, you will receive a tax receipt for 100% of the value of the stock donated.
Arranging for a transfer of securities is a simple process that involves letting both your broker and the Director of Advancement, Sarah Morison, know that you plan to donate through a transfer of securities. We will want to ensure that RLC is capable of fulfilling your intentions for the designation and as it is our policy to sell securities immediately, it will be useful to know when they can be expected.
Once you have discussed your wishes for the transfer, you will be asked to complete a transfer form from TD bank detailing the securities that you will be donating. Please send the form to both your broker and to Ms. Morison so that we will know when to expect your donation. Please note which program will receive the benefit of your gift.
The Canada Revenue Agency regulations define the value of a donated security (for the purpose of tax receipting) as the fair market value of the security at the time that it is received in the charities account. As with other independent schools, it is Rosseau Lake College’s policy to immediately divest of transferred stocks on the day of receipt and your tax receipt will indicate the gross proceeds from the sale and will not reflect any fees incurred in the process.
The transfer form can be found here with the school’s account details completed. Please email or fax (705) 732-6319 your form to the attention of the Advancement Department along with your mailing address, phone number and the RLC program that you would like to benefit from your donation noted.
To send a wire transfer, you will need to visit your bank or credit union and provide information about Rosseau Lake College bank account including a “Swift” ID which is a unique identifier that can be used for Canadian and international wire payments.
A wire transfer takes approximately 3-5 business days to be processed. The transfer cost invoiced by your financial institution will likely be between $30-$80, depending on the currency and amount, and will also be subject to a $17.50 fee by our bank which is TD Bank.
Your teller will require account details for the school and all the information you will need is included on our Wire Transfer Form, which we ask that you forward to the school when you have completed your transfer.
